Quahog’s Seafood Shack

Adam Erace has nothing bad to say about Quahog’s Seafood Shack in Stone Harbor, a seafood restaurant with a conscience.
This isn’t the place for farmed salmon and Chilean sea bass. Instead executive chef/owner Lucas Manteca and his chef de cuisine Carlos Barros prepare Jersey gems like blue crabs, oysters and Great Sound steamers as well as the “trash fish” nobody wants to take to the prom. Whiting, pollock, Brazilian pacu and Atlantic croaker—a buttery weakfish relative roasted whole—are streaked with bright chimichurri and served alongside peppery watercress salad.

The column next to his review was a disappointment–clearly a last minute post as the Greek couple sold the Crepewalk about a year ago (the husband is working in front of HUP making delicious cheesesteaks. The new Crepewalk owner is a nice, energetic guy with some decent food but it isn’t the same without the old owners–the crepe batter is often way overcooked to a crisp. Plus, Hemo’s is not for the bacon-egg-cheese, but rather the grilled chicken with hemo’s and hot sauce. AND, if you’re going to mention a Mexican foodtruck, MexiPhilly is decent, but Don Memo’s absolutely destroys it. Finally, if you want to mention Chinese food, the real controversy around Penn is why the Le Ahn’s get so much press for their stupid rivalry when there are at least four other trucks in the area I know of that are better than both.
