More Love For Kanella
Posted by Foobooz on July 24th, 2008

If you haven’t been to Kanella you’re really missing out. Elisa Ludwig is the latest to heap praise on the Cypriot BYOB on Spruce Street.
Kanella is a fresh, fantastic addition to the local BYO lineup. For one thing, there’s no other kitchen serving this food — the cuisine of Cyprus is an unmistakable amalgam of Greek and Turkish influences augmented by notes from France, Italy, Lebanon and elsewhere — in the region. Chef/owner Konstantinos Pitsillides has created a well-edited menu that makes his native cuisine accessible without dumbing down its distinct flavors. Even more notable is the cooking itself, which eschews fancy innovations for authenticity and simplicity. It’s honest, good food. If there’s a gimmick here, it’s that what you see is what you get.

Best restaurant in Philadelphia…Being there three times and every time I love it more..Chef plays with flavors and condiments in a very adventure and amazing way. This little BYOB is a Philadelphia Gem. We always paid around $80-$85 per couple, which includes two appetizers, two entrees, and dessert. If you go to Amada or Zahav, you will end up paying the same and will leave the place starving. In Kanella you will leave full and satisfy. We cannot get enough of this place. Last week, we wanted to open one of the two bottles we have of 2008 Wine of the Year, Casa Lapostolle Clos Apalta, and decided there were no better place to open this bottle than Kanella. We were so right. Service is awesome, love the touch of the owner/chef always stopping by all the tables at the end of the night. Very European, once you get a table it is yours for the night. No rush, just enjoy and bring a good bottle of wine because this place is worthy.
