Dos Segundos Opening This Friday!

Posted by Foobooz on July 8th, 2008

Dos Segundos Cantina

This Friday Cantina Dos Segundos will be opening at 4pm. In what has to be the quickest turnaround time in Philadelphia history (whoever gums up the works of getting restaurants open in this city must be on vacation) the former Azure will be opening as the second Cantina in the Royal Tavern/Khyber/Cantina Los Cabbalitos family.

After the jump you can find the latest draft of their menu and it’s a long one.

I’m still grieving over the loss of Azure’s seitan tips, but this menu looks like a nice replacement. I wonder what the beer menu will look like. And the tequila menu for that matter.

  2. Dave Says:

Cantina “Originale” is a great spot. But, as I commented last week with regard to Tria, why do we need to duplicate (and triplicate) our restaurants in Philly. Philly has some phenomenal restaurants, but we need someone new on the scene.

  3. Foobooz Says:

    Dave,

I’m not sure that we don’t have those new people here already. It’s just that it’s a lot easier to get excited/hype a known quantity. Spots that are owned by first-timers are unknown and the buzz tends to grow slower. See Memphis Taproom, the Institute and Kite & Key for three.

  4. old-timer Says:

I remember going to Azure when it first opened. Nobody knew about this place for a few years it seems.
The thing that really stuck out was the “seitan vs. meat” debate among my friends. Most of them either started and stayed with or switched over to Seitan because it was SOOOOO good.
I can’t wait to try the new place, but I would be remiss if I didn’t request that the one item that should stay on the menu is the Seared Seitan Tips.
Either way, I am looking forward to a visit; the menu looks great. :)

  5. nl-local Says:

I am bummed, too, to see Azure close its doors, but am happy another restaurant has taken its place (as opposed to the space staying vacant forever) – I also, second, the fact that we need not have Tria 1 and Tria 2. Doesn’t the place lose its sense of uniqueness once the original has been duplicated? we need new blood. and different cuisines…

  6. No way Jose Says:

Why is everyone crying over multiple spots? I personaly do want to drag my lazy behind all the way to South Philly when i want a good margarita or goat (mmm goat). I would rather have a good spot like cantina in every neighborhood that inconsistent empty places like Azure. By the way rumour is they kept a lot of the staff from Azure. If thats true its a nice gesture.
