Most people I know outside of Philly don't know much about the BYOB or Gastropub scenes but they get all excited about the Continental and Buddakan. The 'gastropub' thing has kind of been taken to extremes in that now any bar serving food from something other than a deep fryer can get lumped into that category and it's giving otherwise dive bars excuses to hike up food prices. I enjoy being able to go to a relaxed dinner at St. Stephen's Green or Aspen but I don't want the gastropub mindset creeping in on my Happy Hours at the North Star.
