Time Stumbles
Posted by Foobooz on June 18th, 2008

Adam Erace has nary a nice thing to say about Time, the successor to Ludwig’s on Sansom Street.
The cumbersome country club-inspired menu executed by Keith Murphy (from the couple’s wine bar Vintage) feels as heavy as a cable-knit sweater at an Independence Day barbecue. Eighty-degree Center City nights don’t exactly ignite cravings for braised veal cheeks and rack of wild boar, you know?
You’d think a place called Time would know what month it is, but forget about the calendar for a minute. I could maybe dig it if the wintry items were especially delicious. They’re not.

From the comments, it looks like the one really stumbling was the review author. I can’t speak for the restaurant, as I’ve only patronized the bar, but they do good work on that side.

Memphis Taproom and now Time too; is Mr. Erace a little grumpy? Maybe a nice seasonal Rita’s Misto turns that frown upside down.

Ya - Mr. Erace is getting gutted in the Phillyweekly comments. Well deserved.

Time has been the most disappointing opening so far in 2008. Everything about it is a complete miss. Maybe I just had high expectations given that Vintage was such a home run.

What happen to Ludwigs? Damn, we’ve lost a great beer bar.

Bring back German beer, not some pretenious “country club” place. I heard bad things from everyone on Time.

Does nobody know how disgusting Ludwig’s was? I sincerely hope none of you ate the food there. And they never had half of their beers. Time has a huge and varied selection of beers on draft. It also has a great wine list and a huge selection of whiskeys, whiskies, scotch and rye.
And Janet I think by “everyone” you mean a few friends of yours. You’ve obviously let them make your decision for you. Good job.
Yes, this is the same matt who responded over on the PW site as well.

The author is right on about the butter. How do you serve unfresh, “freezer-burned” butter? I really cannot comprehend that decision.
The burger i had at whiskey bar was tasty, but the fries are weird.
