Closing Roundup

Posted by Foobooz on June 16th, 2008

Philadelphia restaurant scened keeps opening restaurants at a healthy clip but there also seems to be an uptick in closures and reconceptualizations.

Here’s the list of spots that have closed recently or are slated to close.

  • Azure
  • Champions Sports Bar
  • Chaucer’s Tabard Inn (closing 6/28)
  • Clementine’s
  • Kaizan
  • Overtures
  • Sansom Street Oyster House
  • Sonam
  • Striped Bass (Closing 6/21)
  • Twenty21 (closing by the end of the month)

I heard that the Twenty21 closing was temporary, for some much needed remodeling. Any truth to that? It’s never been very impressive, but it always seems to be packed at lunch.

Maybe you should have a section next to “openings” called “closings” just to make sure no one plans their night around a restuarant that is not even open anymore

  3. Sundeep Says:

    oh yeah you forgot 707

  4. Mike Says:

There has been a ton of openings in the past year and inflationary food prices. More competition and higher costs will always mean closures. The good news is that most of these places weren’t very good and, personally, I won’t be missing any of them except for maybe Azure.

  5. Daniella Says:

Twenty21 has a lovely outside dining area. The inside is unimpressive, as is the food.
