Devil’s Den: Opening Night
Posted by Kirsten Henri on April 2nd, 2008
We wanted to go, we really did. We’ve been waiting long enough for this place to finally open its doors and the buzz has been, well, buzzy. But, alas, we have a rather unattractive head cold and beer and head colds do not mix. Now whiskey and head colds…
Joe Sixpack stopped by Devil’s Den and he thinks its super. Did anybody else check it out? Reports? Thoughts?

It’s right around the corner from my house, but we opted to sit out opening night, as it was PACKED.

It rocked! Phenomenal beer selection, gorgeous interior. Too bad the kitchen had a problem, so there was no food. Many in the who’s who of the Philly beer scene showed up to support the new place. Definitely worth a re-visit.

We were going to stop by but the place looked like it was packed to the gills. If there was no food, maybe we’ll give them a week to get it together first..

Beautiful interior, nice atmosphere, and probably south philly’s best beer selection at this point in time. You missed a good time.

Stopped by for a looksee on Wednesday, and it wasn’t busy at all.
Beer selection is truly phenomenal. Totally beer geek heaven. They have every imaginable type of glassware. Prices on most of the beers were quite reasonable…I’m pretty tired of seeing nothing for under $5 or $6, so I was happy to see PBC’s Rowhouse and a few others for $4. Huge bottle collection, too.
Atmosphere could use a little tweaking, as could attentiveness of bar staff. It’s a neighborhood bar, people…pay attention to the customers instead of chatting amongst yourselves at the end of the bar. Yeah, even when it’s slow. Those fluorescent lights in the under-counter fridges should be covered or axed — they’re crazy uncomfortable on the eyes and cast an undead-like shadow over everyone at the bar. And please please tell me that there’s going to be more than one bathroom. And that the second bathroom will not contain a urinal.
Looking forward to seeing the place get settled in.

Been there a few times and the real standout is the beer selection. It’s phenomenal down to every detail and you can see that it received the most thought and care.
The food is something else entirely. It just really misses the mark. The Frites were burnt, the ceasar was bizzare (and burnt), the nachos had a skimpy portion of dried out sausage…I just was just very disappointed in it.
