Rejecting Restaurant Week

Posted by Kirsten Henri on January 25th, 2008

Rejecting Restaurant Week

Planning on avoiding Restaurant Week? Or just peeved you didn’t make reservations in time to score a table? Maybe you’ll have an easier time getting a reservation at one of these fine restaurants that are NOT participating in the promotion. Your prix-fixe-free table is right this way…

Feeling French-ish?Instead of Brasserie Perrier or Zinc, why not Ansill, Cochon or Coquette? Ooh la la!

Le gustan la comida Mexicana?
Skip Tequila’s, El Vez or Xochitl and give new South Street spot Las Bugambilias a shot.

Mangia!
Instead of Mercato, try Osteria (we know, totally unrealistic, but why not try?)

Feeling fishy?
Throw back Oceanaire and Bookbinder’s and set your course to Little Fish.

Interested in Indian?
Stay at home with Tiffin, rather than head out for Karma or Cafe Spice. Thanks to their spiffy delivery service, you won’t even have to leave the house!

Must-Have Modern American?
We salute Fork and Django, but Supper or Southwark are both Restaurant-Week-free.

Beyond Beefy?
Though you’ll need an expense account, get your meat on at Barclay Prime or the Saloon rather than Smith & Wollensky. What kind of three-course meal with a steak can you get for $35 anyway?

Anyone know of any restaurants out of the Center City/Old City zone that are still offering similar deals? I know all of the area Melting Pots have a $35 3-course menu (at $35 for 3 courses I can justify cooking my own food, since I would gladly pay someone that much just to clean my fondue pot). I was wondering if there are any other spots that have decent prix-fixe menus that might not be experiencing the same rushed service and cheapskate-filled dining rooms.

I am starting to believe restaurant week is a waste of money. 35 bucks to choose from a shorten menu and then on top of that they give you less of a portion which means I am still hungry afterwards.

Is there a ranking of quality, quantiy, and selection of the 110 or so restaurants that participate in restaurant week. Basically a ranking of the best places to go during restaurant week ?
