Consolidation In Local Beer Distribution

Big news today in local beer distribution. Origlio Beverage has acquired Kunda Beverage in a deal that could have long lasting effects on Philadelphia’s craft beer scene. Kunda distributes a wide variety of local craft beers including Dock Street, Dogfish Head, Legacy, Stoudt’s and Weyerbacher.

Whether Origlio would choose to keep all the Kunda brands or whether any of the breweries might object to the shift of its brand to a new wholesaler is unknown at this point.

The impact on the overall wholesale picture for the five-county region would be, at the very least, one less option for breweries seeking to enter the market. In addition, an eventual shuffling and swapping of brands among wholesalers is not unusual following a restructuring as major as this one evidently will be.
