    That’s it? Wow, how underwhelming.

  2. Buckethead Says:

I was there a couple nights ago and the food was just OK, but they’ve been open less than a week. They do have quite a few great beers on draft though.

I, too, was there recently and the food lacked any punch. Seems like it will be a good place to go to get a buzz but not much else.

I was there last night with a friend, 9/8, to get some food and drinks. They have a great beer list, but the food choices are strugglin at best. We had some tacos and to say they were bland is an understatemen. The corn tortillas were so soaked with grease that it was hard to even taste anything else and on top of it, their meat was dry and good luck trying to get some flavor on your pallate – no hot sauce, salsa or salt and pepper anywhere! What kind of place serves this type of fare and does not provide hot sauce, salsa or salt and pepper (seriously, there is no pepper in this place at all, we asked and the waitress was like, salt and pepper?? thats a first…what the fuck people?!?) What a bust! If Jose Pistola’s is going to advertise themselves as a ‘beer and burrito place’ then fucking offer beer(check and check) and some GOOD food, not 1 burrito variety – EXPAND THE MENU!!. One more thing, when I received my beer, on the glass was residue of some woman’s lipstick 1/2 way around the rim. I could have thrown up. You guys have been open for a little over a week and you are already slingin trash like that and your place isnt even crowded -shame on you! That sealed the deal for me, Jose Pistolas is O-U-T in my book – someone bring Copa Too back, at least they had margaritas and the food didn’t taste like it was seasoned for seniors.

my group also had a terrible experience at jose pistola’s. the menu is very limited. nachos were ok. burrito was weak. biggest offense was serving an 11 dollar margarita in a dirty glass, that was all mix and no tequila. at the end of the night, to make up for the poor service, the server offered a free round of drinks. when we saw the bill, they had actually already charged us for the drinks. thanks a lot jose pistola. i’m banning this dump.

  6. Mike Says:

I agree with all of these comments. I ate there and found the food to be miserably bland.

  7. Ang Says:

We went to Jose Pistola’s for lunch a few days ago. Our experience:

*atmosphere – loud rap music on at 1PM (not kidding).

*bartender – told us to “hold on” when we asked for a menu while he text messaged; gave us another couple’s food (there were only 4 ppl there total inculding us), and didn’t apologize; sat – YES, SAT HIS BIG GROSS ASS – on top of the bar. Like, where people are supposed to eat; ignored the customers to surf the internet and talk to a girl at the end of the bar.

The food at this place simply isn’t good enough to make up for the terrible service and atmosphere. Suffice to say, I’m never going back.

  8. Maureen Says:

My husband and I went there a week ago and the service was slow, there was no salsa or hot sauce or anything to add flavor to the relatively bland burritos. That was bad but what was worse is the beer was about room temp. I could understand cellar temp but room temp was too warm – we didn’t want it too cold (thus killing the flavor) but it was just way too warm. Plus, the server had no clue what was on tap. I might give them a second chance, but I won’t be rushing to do so.

I’m sorry the rest of you had such a negative experience. I went at the advice of a friend and had a great lunch. The beer selection is impressive and although the menu is rather short, the fish tacos I had were very good and creative with the flavor combinations.

To defend the menu, it is short for a reason. The bartender told me that they only use fresh ingredients so the menu is small to accomodate this intention.

I just read these comments. From the dates of the posts, I can see they’re written right around the time of Pistola’s opening, so things were understandably pretty hectic. I always get good, couteous, quick service there though. The staff is insanely personable and endearing.

I’m not a big nacho guy, but their nachos are so good I eat them just about every time I’m there. And they do have hot sauce (don’t know if they always did). The burritos are the best. They’re BIG, so show up on an empty stomach.

Pistola’s is a great option in the neighborhood if you’re in the mood for Mexican food or you just want to kick back with a good beer and watch the game (great flat screens).

  11. G Says:

I went last night and this place is TRAGICALLY bad- I should have known based on every table being open. We split the nachos and they were passable- the tacos, we’re unbeliebaly awful- the chicken and beef tacos consisted of some bland, shredded beef and chicken topped with raw onion, and some chopped cilantro- thats its. Somehow they didnt have pork empanadas that night, but pork nachos were available….hmmmmm, can you say, pre-packaged frozen food?

A few suggestions- pick what you want to be? A burrito bar, a hipster beer bar with a juke box of tribe called quest, and twisted sister, thats played way tooo loud or a decent neighborhood option for some tacos and a few drinks. Also, Casey, the bartender, who is passable for John Belushi is one of the most obnoxious people Ive ever had the pleasure of being ignored by last night. I figure a few more months before this “gem” closes.

  12. Foodie girl Says:

Stopped by this joint yesterday. Apparently they have a new chef who is sprucing up the fare with some awsome guac, and pico. I’d been there before and found the tacos bland but yesterday they were fantastic. Adam the day time guy says they’ll be adding menu items over the next couple of weeks (he mentioned a burger and some salads). Overall a nice experience, nice guy, really good beer and I loved the food.
Maybe they just had a rough start.

  13. world traveler Says:

I agree, the food is bland in general as I firmly beleive if you want a decent burrito, go to Pico Di Gallo on 15th and South and if you want some nachos, go to Tequillas ( absolutely true for those of whom may gasp ). The place however has an edgy crowd which is perfect but dont expect to improve your lovelife with your nearest and dearest. It has a kick back and hang out virtue reminiscent of your old colleage bar with some upside of some pretty decent beers. The staff are fun and feel like your mates. Go and try it, its worth a drop by if your in center city, even for the beer if the 3 mile queue at Monks drives you mad !
