Zot Stands Out

Posted by Foobooz on June 4th, 2007

Zot

Craig LaBan tries out the latest Belgian spot in town, the three-month old Zot on the 100 block of Lombard. Despite missteps from the waitstaff and questionable frittes, the mussels are what matters and delivers.

Order up a charcuterie plate and any pot of the 30 or so different kinds of beer-steamed mussels to begin – perhaps the classic Bruxelles style perfumed with smoky slab bacon, leeks and goat cheese; or the harissa-spiced Red Devil to get your lips smoking – and the scene is set for a splendid meal.

Ate there a few weeks ago. Very disappointing. Monks and Eulogy are 10 times better.

LaBan was dead on about the service. I was a fan of the place when it opened, but visited there recently and their newer staff members are very disappointing. Visited for dinner within the past few weeks to a much weaker wait staff than they had had prior. Went there this friday and the new girl behind the bar was not as pleasant or as able to handle the bar crowd and its selection as some of thier original staff. Definitiely a place heading south, from an early climax, atmosphere-wise.
