Craving Octopus
Posted by Foobooz on February 5th, 2007
There are few dishes as simple and satisfying as Dmitri’s grilled octopus appetizer. The simple olive oil and lemon based sauce. The grill marks, the slight charring only serving to accentuate the flavor. The texture, neither mushy or gummy, this is octopus like it’s supposed to be. Mmmmmmmm, Octopus. And for our money, the Dmitri’s on 2nd Street 3rd is just a bit better.

Dmitri’s is on 3rd and Catharine. Not 2nd Street.

Quite possibly one of the best dishes in Philadelphia… I crave it at least once a week and my mouth is watering just writing this post… Dmit’s is a unique, intimate, quintessential gem that we are fortunate to have in our city…

The Dimitri’s on 3rd and Catharine is the one I prefer, too. The octopus is truly delicious and probably one of the most simple and straightforward preparations. But the only thing I consistently order is the hummus and pita. They char the bread over an open flame so it has all that carbonized yumminess on it. Worth the wait.

How does the one on Fitler Square compare to its Queen Village sibling? LaBan seems to prefer it, but most people I talk to prefer the original QV joint.

The Dmit’s in Queen Village is much better… better in food, ambiance, and service. Not to discount the location on Fitler Square, but the QV location is far superior and the girls that work at QV Dmit’s are great…
