Isla Ibiza

Posted by Foobooz on January 3rd, 2007

Isla Ibiza

Isla Ibiza is the latest in Philadelphia’s recent Spanish food boom and Kirsten Henri takes a look at this NoLibs entry into the field.

Isla Ibiza offers more of a rustic take on the Spanish trend. The atmosphere is certainly the most homespun. The oddly configured building features a narrow front dining area that faces the street, which is partially blocked off from the main dining room and bar. The rambling space has been made inviting with yellow paint, warm lighting and colorful paintings blanketing an exposed brick wall.
Guillermo Veloso, former chef of Cuba Libre, is the executive chef. Veloso has been busy lately, also serving as executive chef at Cebu, a Filipino restaurant in Old City that opened in November. The food hes preparing at Isla Ibiza wavers from congenial and vibrant to busy and overwhelming.
