Reading Terminal To Open Sundays

Posted by Foobooz on September 14th, 2006

Reading Terminal Market

For the first time in its existence the Reading Terminal Market will have regularly scheduled Sunday hours.
Paul Steinke, General Manager of The Reading Terminal Market announced the market will experiment with Sunday hours starting October 15th. Each merchant will have the option whether to open. So there will not be any Amish merchants. Interestingly only 25% of the Terminal’s merchants signed address stating they were interested in being open Sunday.

It’ll be interested to see how the experiment goes.

Full text of the letter sent to friends of the market appears after the jump.

Dear Friends and Fans of the Market,

At its monthly meeting yesterday, the Board of Directors of the Reading
Terminal Market Corporation approved a plan to open the Market on Sundays on
a trial basis beginning on Sunday, October 15th. This decision was
motivated by a written request addressed to the Board and signed by more
than a quarter of the Market’s merchants.

Each merchant will be able to decide whether or not to open at his or her
option. As a consequence, not all merchants will be open, in particular the
Amish.

Hours of operation on Sundays will be 9:00am to 4:00pm beginning October
15th.

This is a dramatic change in the Market’s operating culture. We are hopeful
that it will be successful, especially in light of the positive changes that
have made Center City a more lively place on Sundays. However, the only way
it will work is if our loyal customers support the merchants that elect to
open for business.

Hope to see you at the Market on Sundays starting October 15th.

As long as the beer garden is open on sunday i will be there. This is great news for people throwing last minute sunday barbecues.
