Thursday Is Posole Day

Posted by Foobooz on August 3rd, 2006

Posole

Craig LaBan notes that at the Restaurant Acapulco as well as at many of the other taquerias on South 9th Street Thursdays are the day traditional Posole is served.

Posole is the traditional stew filled with shreds of pork and puffy grains of hominy (a.k.a. posole) that taste like corn-scented gnocchi. It comes three ways at Acapulco, representing three colors of the Mexican flag – red with tomatoes and chile, green with tomatillos and pumpkin seeds, or simply plain “white.” With a hearty plate of accoutrements – oregano, queso fresco, chicharrones and lime – it’s a rustic meal in a bowl.

Holy Posole! [Craig LaBan]
