Pizza & Beer

Posted by Foobooz on July 13th, 2006

Pizza & Beer are great toghether, but in reality a little more difficult to find together than you’d expect, prompting City Paper’s Drew Lazor to ask, “Some joints offer great pizza. Others, excellent beer. Shall ever the twain meet?”

Lazor comes up with a quality list but Foobooz has to add a couple.
Victory Brewing Company – Downingtown, PA. If the beer weren’t so good and fresh, we’d still make the trek for the pizza. Baked on a thin crust, with delicious toppings, like the Kennett Square mushroom, or the carnivores’ Stockyard, this brick oven pizza makes it a lot easier to find a designated driver.
Another place worth the trip for beer and pizza has to be Tony’s Place, across from the Grey Lodge on Frankford Avenue. One part diner, one part bar, and one part great pizza shop make Tony’s Place a great pizza and beer spot.

Lazor’s List:

  • Lickety Split
  • Mama Palma’s
  • Mad Greek Restaurant and Pizza
  • Grey Lodge Pub
  • The Best House Pizzeria
  • Celebre Pizzaria

Where can I find tomato pie? I live in Lancaster Co. and just love this stuff. Recipes or Restaurants.

Might depend on how you define tomato pie.
The baked dough covered in tomato sauce with absolutely no cheese can still be found in bakeries in in Conshohocken and Norristown.
And much like cheessesteaks everyone seems to have an opinion on whose is best.

Or try Marchiano’s Bakery in Manayunk, I’ve heard good things.
